Reset & Recharge: Natural Ways to Feel Your Best This Holiday Season

By Kemoy Liburd-Chow, Functional Nutrition and Movement Coach

The holidays are here—a season of gratitude, joy, and togetherness. Between Thanksgiving feasts and Christmas celebrations, it’s easy to get swept up in the indulgence and bustle. But amidst all the delicious meals and festive fun, our bodies could use a little extra love and support.

Think of this time as your opportunity for a holiday reset—a way to nourish yourself, restore balance, and enter the new year feeling your best. Our bodies are incredible; they naturally detox every day through the liver, kidneys, digestive system, skin, and lungs. With a few mindful choices, we can help those systems do their jobs even better—so we feel energized, clear-headed, and ready to savor the season.

Start with a Holiday Home Refresh

Swap out the plastic:
Holiday leftovers and gift packaging can bring a lot of plastic into our homes. Reduce exposure to harmful chemicals by choosing glass storage containers, stainless steel water bottles, and reusable wraps. Small changes can make a lasting impact on both your health and the planet.

Choose cleaner products:
This is a great time to give your household and self-care products a festive “makeover.” Replace chemical-heavy cleaners, skincare, and personal care items with non-toxic alternatives. You’ll find wonderful natural options for everything—from hand soap and dish detergent to lotion and toothpaste.

Deck the halls with plants:
Houseplants aren’t just decorative—they’re natural air purifiers! Snake plants, aloe vera, peace lilies, and bamboo help clear the air, adding a calm, grounding energy to your holiday home.

Nourish Your Body Through the Holidays

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate:
Between the extra coffee, wine, and sugary drinks, hydration is essential. Water supports detoxification, digestion, brain health, and energy. Start your day with warm lemon water and aim for 96–120 ounces of water daily.

Sip your greens:
Balance those rich meals with nutrient-packed green juices or smoothies. They flood your cells with vitamins and antioxidants to help your body recover from heavier eating.

Add detox-supporting foods:
Choose foods that naturally support your liver and digestion—without feeling restrictive.

  • Sulphur-rich veggies: kale, cabbage, broccoli, garlic.
  • Heavy metal detoxifiers: cilantro, apples.
  • Prebiotics: artichokes, onions, asparagus.
  • Antioxidant superstars: berries and colorful fruits.
  • Liver-lovers: dandelion greens, mustard greens, chard, and watercress.

Rest well:
Quality sleep is one of the best gifts you can give yourself this season. Let your body recharge, restore, and heal. Make it a priority—even if your schedule is packed with parties and travel.

Move and sweat:
Movement helps release stress and toxins. Whether it’s a post-dinner walk, a festive dance party, or a cozy yoga session by the tree—get your body moving and your blood flowing. Saunas or hot baths can also promote gentle detoxification.

Support with superfoods:
Add a spoonful of spirulina, chlorella, or matcha to your smoothies for an antioxidant boost. A simple way to stay balanced during the busy season!
